9 Steps of Straightening Hair

Analisa (1)

Analyze hair is a preliminary step to determine the type and condition of the hair as well as to determine the products that will be used in accordance to consumer’s hair type and condition

Hair type can be categorized as follows:

  1. Healthy virgin black hair. The attributes are; black hair, soft, shiny and has a good elasticity.
  2. Unhealthy black virgin hair. The attributes are; black hair with dry, dull, matted, split end and less elasticity.
  3. Non Black Colored hair. The attributes are, non-black hair, the diameter of hair is various, the hair colour is also uniformless, less luminous and less elastic. .
  4. Black colored hair. The attributes are black hair, hair diameter is various, less lumionous and less elastic.
  5. Ex Waving process Hair. The attributes are wavy/curly hair, less luminous and less elastic.
  6. Ex straightening process hair. The attributes are hair looks reddish, dry, dull, not elastic, crush.

Tips on elasticity test

If the applicator is hesitant to determine the customer’s hair type, then the elasticity test should be performed. One of the easiest way is by pulling the customer’s hair slowly. An elastic hair when pulled will stretch/not break and if released would reverse quickly as before. If the hair when pulled doesn’t stretch or break, it means the hair is dead. Assessing the level of elasticity of hair depends on the experience, expertise and foresight of the applicators.

Shampoo (2)

Wash your hair using Good Pre Process Shampoo or with good quality Non-Conditioner Shampoo (hair should be assured to be clean otherwise it would cause cream step 1 unable to produce maximal results)

Application Step 1 (3)

For virgin hair with natural straight hair result, apply Good Hair Straightening Cream Strong (yellow color). For virgin hair with elegant straight hair result, apply Good Hair Straightening Cream Super Strong (pink color). Apply a sufficient amount on the hair until the hair is covered starting from 1 cm from the scalp to the tip of hair and try to finish it in 20 minutes, then suspend them for 10-15 minutes as initial absorption.

For ex chemical processed hair with elastic and no damaged hair, first spray Good Bye Frizz to protect from overprocess, then apply Good Hair Straightening Cream Soft (blue color). Apply the cream sufficiently until the hair is covered from 1 cm from the scalp to the tip of the hair and try to finish it in 20 minutes, then suspend them for 10-15 minutes as the initial absorption.

For ex chemical processed hair with elastic and slightly damaged hair, fir mask the damaged hair then apply Good Hair Straightening Cream Soft (blue color). Apply cream sufficiently until the hair is covered starting from 1 cm from the scalp to the tip of the hair and try to finish it in 20 minutes, then suspend them for 10-15 minutes as the initial absorption.

Important note: It is not recommended to do the straightening process on dead/non-elastic hair because it could cause hair loss / broken hair.

Smoothing (4)

Given the strength of hair between one with another is different, it is advisable not to depend too much on the time impregnation that has been set (10-15 minutes). We recommend that you do the elasticity test after the installation has reached 10 minutes.

if you find the hair is not ready for smoothing process, then leave it for another 5 minutes and so on.

Smoothing is performed with 2 fingers clamping techniques from top to bottom and must pass through the tip of the hair. Do it layer by layer until the hair becomes straight.

Suspend it for about 5 minutes so the step 1 would be well absorbed as final absorption process.

Flushing 1 (5)

Rinse hair with clean water without using shampoo and conditioner until it is completely clean from step 1 cream. Then dry the hair until it reaches 80% level of dryness.

Clamping 1 (6)

Use a good quality flat iron, set the temperature to 160-200 °C. The setting temperature depends on type and condition of hair. For instance, for ex chemical processed / trouble hair or thin virgin hair, 160-180 °C should be enough; for thick virgin hair, it should be around 180-200 °C. First, spray Good Bye Frizz as hair protection from over heating flat iron, then clamp hair layer by layer with 0,5 cm thickness repeatedly until the hair is completely fall strai

If the hair clamping process is not done perfectly, it would cause hair to be fluffy again.

If the hair is set too mature, it will cause damage to the hair.
If the hair clamping is over processed, it would cause hair damage.

Application step 2 (7)

Apply Good Neutralizer Cream sufficiently until the hair is covered, then suspend for 20 minutes minimum. The amount used of Good Neutralizer Cream is equal to Good Hair Straightening Cream.

Good Neutralizer Cream helps to neutralize the remaining chemical compounds on the hair after the first rinsing process.

If the amount of Neutralizer Cream isn’t enough, the chemical compounds will remain on the hair. This would cause hair to be fluffy again.

Rinsing step 2 (8)

Rinse hair completely clean and apply good quality conditioner to protect the hair and replace the nutrients that are lost during the straightening process, then rinse again until clean then dry it.

Clamping step 2 (9)

Re-do Clamping with a medium level temperature. This clamping process is a last step for the straightening process series.
